Land Acknowledgement
Written by Andrea Fox.
We respectfully acknowledge that we live, work, and operate on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the diverse First Nations and Indigenous Peoples across what is commonly known as Canada.
In doing so, we recognize the profound human impact on the land's natural infrastructure and the historic power imbalances perpetuated by a resource-extractive economy. Through our work, we strive to bridge these divides, fostering connection and community cohesion by identifying foundational, land-based principles that serve diverse communities across the country.
We are deeply committed to working alongside Indigenous communities, actively uplifting their voices and self-determination in the vital process of Truth and Reconciliation.
By honoring the principles of Two-Eyed Seeing — a framework brought forward by Mi'kmaw Elder Dr. Albert Marshall — we seek to uncover our common humanity through a shared relationship with the land. This approach allows us to weave the deep wisdom of Indigenous stewardship with rigorous, science-backed validation to inform and influence systemic decision-making for governments and institutions alike.
We honor Mother Earth and her generosity in providing the clean air and water essential for our collective survival.
We believe that healthy forests make happy communities, and that true economic resilience cannot be separated from ecological vitality.
Guided by MIT’s U Theory, we reject short-term, for climate threats like wildfires and watershed instability. Instead, we deeply sense systemic vulnerabilities alongside stakeholders to co-create long-term solutions that treat forests as critical infrastructure, dedicating ourselves to actively tending to the land so its health, happiness, and integrity are safeguarded for generations to come.
